Wilmington Community Unit School District 209U

Wilmington Middle School Renovations

Frederick Quinn Corporation (FQC) provided Pre-Referendum Services and At-Risk Construction Management Services for the district to embark on a complete rehabilitation of the existing high school. This allowed for the transformation of the facility to function as a middle school. Working directly with the district early in the process, FQC assisted in the process of educating voters on the question of why this project was necessary, what will the project consist of, and how much the project will cost. Being an active participant in Town Hall meetings, voter coffees, and community forums, FQC successfully assisted the district is passing its referendum to lead to the much needed facility improvements.

One of the main components of the project was a $2.1 million mechanical renovation, which required complete demolition of the existing HVAC system and implementing a brand new, state-of-the-art system. Other components of the project include:

  • Complete locker room renovation including new bathrooms, showers, toilets, benches, lockers, and offices
  • New finishes throughout the facility such as flooring, paint, exterior doors, all new drop ceiling, and a new front entry canopy
  • New 2,500 square foot two-story vestibule
  • Elevator addition

The district initiative also includes a brand new 150,000 square foot high school and improvements to the middle school. Additions to L.J. Stevens Middle School will permit the district to house all of its 4th and 5th graders in a single building and function as the elementary school.
