FQC Construction Management

Old St. Mary's Church

New Worship Facility

Located in the heart of the south loop of Chicago, Old St. Mary’s Church is Chicago’s first and oldest parish. With the redevelopment of this portion of the city increasing the congregation size, Frederick Quinn Corporation (FQC) was selected to provide At-Risk Construction Management Services for the construction of a new worship facility. The project site was home to an abandoned furniture warehouse. FQC accepted responsibility to remove all buildings, clear all hazardous materials and prepare the site for the new facilities. Perhaps the greatest challenge on this project was navigating the murky waters of the City of Chicago permitting process. Highlights of this facility include:

  • Load bearing precast concrete wall panel construction, standing seam metal roof and exterior glazing system rising to 41’ above grade.
  • Worship space with 650 person occupancy. This space features a 96’ free span with acoustically designed drywall ceiling and wall construction for premium sound quality.

The value engineering process managed by FQC allowed the parish to implement the second phase of its master plan. After the church facility was completed FQC renovated and refurbished the adjacent school building. This facility now serves as a Faith and Formation Center housing all parish religious education activities.

I can’t tell what a pleasure it has been working with your team. I have a great deal of respect for your organization; you’ve done a great job of defining and developing a corporate culture at FQC that seems to permeate everyone who works with you. - Rev. James Donovan, Pastor
